Drupe of Life

I carved into a coconut, the drupe of a plant known as the tree of life in many cultures. My inspiration for this piece began with the abstraction of the conceptual life-giving seed, that from within something small is the potential to entirely change the environment around it, to entirely shift the experience one has with the world surrounding.

I based the design on the patterns of ocular migraines, a condition which the visionary St. Hildegard of Bingen experienced.
