This was simply a fun project for me. I tackled it during finals week using a variety of techniques. I started off by applying a hard ground to copper plating, and using that to etch in the line work. I progressively etched in the aquatint to create values, and then used a soft ground (which always smells wonderful) to put texture into the background. After proofing, I went back in with a hard ground and needle tool to darken areas with hatching. You can see the difference the hatching made between these two images:
- First State
- Second State
